Certain doubts about the use of electrical equipment are normal. Not everything is explained, is it? Let's discover the importance of this number for the correct use of the product.
As we know, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is responsible for publishing the 60529 standard, which classifies the IP protection levels of an electrical product. This standard is intended to provide more detailed and complete information than the product disclosure provides.
We know that there are several products produced for different environments, which can have a lot of humidity and become submerged and others that can withstand blows and temperature fluctuations.
In fact, we need to keep in mind the IP protection rating of the products so that they can be used correctly. So that it does not affect its quality and prolongs its durability. To understand better, consult the table below. Where we have the classification in order, defined by EN 60529.
TABLE WITH IP CLASSIFICATION
IP grade | 1st digit - Solids | 2nd digit - Liquids |
IP54 | Limited protection against ingress of dust and debris. | Protected from water spray from any direction. |
IP55 | Limited protection against ingress of dust and debris. | Protected from low pressure water jets from any direction. |
IP56 | Limited protection against ingress of dust and debris. | Protected from high pressure water jets from any direction. |
IP57 | Limited protection against ingress of dust and debris. | Protected in immersion between 15 centimeters and 1 meter deep. |
IP58 | Limited protection against ingress of dust and debris. | Long-term immersion protected up to specified pressure. |
IP60 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Not protected from liquids. |
IP61 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Protected against condensation. |
IP62 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Protected from water spray below 15 degrees vertically. |
IP63 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Protected from water spray below 60 degrees vertically. |
IP64 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Protected from water spray from any direction. |
IP65 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Protected from low pressure water jets from any direction. |
IP66 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Protected from high pressure water jets from any direction. |
IP67 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Protected in immersion between 15 centimeters and 1 meter deep. |
IP68 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Long-term immersion protected up to specified pressure. |
IP69 | Total protection against the entry of dust and residues. | Protected from steam jet cleaning. |
How it is?
According to the table, the various types of IP's, from IP54 to IP58 have limited protection to solids. From S# IP60 to IP69 they have unlimited protection against solids.
For liquids, we can see that there is a wide variety in the classification, with some being ideal even for immersion in water, which can withstand jets, with or without pressure, and also those that are very sensitive.
In fact, the importance of knowing these details makes the difference for anyone who constantly uses electrical equipment.
From the planning and manufacture of an electrical product, the company needs to make a decision about safety standards. Since any failure could harm your consumer, being physical or material damage and that's not what we want.
Therefore, it is mandatory that this information is present on the product packaging and/or manual so that the consumer is aware and avoids further problems.
How do we do around here?
Here, at Two Dogs, we try to provide all the information and guidance so that our customers do not have this concern. You can already find the description of the product on our website and in the manual.
In addition, we try to assist our customers with their questions about products through our social networks and also in person at the physical store in Curitiba.
