1- Fight for hope (Cinderella Man – 2005)

Based on the true story of boxer James J. Braddock, heavyweight champion, who in 1928 had his hand broken in the ring and had to leave the sport and face the Great Depression of 1930, returning to the ring in 1933 and fighting one of the most impressive moments in boxing history in 1935.

Curiosity: Russell Crowe, who played the protagonist, lost 23 pounds during training for the character.


2 – Duel of the Titans (Remember the titans – 2000)

Herman Boone (Denzel Washington), is a football coach hired to work in charge of a university team divided by racism, the Titans. The film was based on true events that took place in 1971, although some differed slightly from the true story in important ways.

Curiosities: The original script for Remember the Titans was heavier, but Disney, the film's producer, changed several parts of the text to make it more appropriate for a family audience.


3 – A Man Among Giants (Concussion – 2015)

Starring dear Will Smith, the film tells the true story of Dr. Bennet Omalu, a forensic neuropathologist who was responsible for the discovery of chronic traumatic encephalopathy in football players. Determined to reverse the situation and expose the serious situation to the world, he wages war against the powerful NFL.

Curiosity: Will Smith won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama.


4 – Race (Race – 2016)

This film tells the true story of athlete Jesse Owens, a black athlete who won four gold medals at the Berlin Olympics in 1936, surpassing Aryan athletes in the middle of the Nazi regime. Quite a story!

Curiosity: The film's release coincided with the 80th anniversary of the Olympics.


5 – Gun Runners (2015)

Kenya is known to be a country with a lot of violence. This documentary shows the reality of two Kenyans, who exchanged their guns – and also their crimes – for a pair of running shoes and the dream of running a marathon.
